Selkirk College adds Taylor from MJHL's Swan Valley Stampeders

The Selkirk College Saints Men’s Hockey program is pleased to announce a commitment from forward Beau Taylor (Manly, Australia) to attend Selkirk College and compete for the Saints beginning in the 2012/13 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Taylor is a three-year Junior A veteran who split time between the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Kindersley Klippers and the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Swan Valley Stampeders. He set career highs in goals and points as a 20-year old with the Stamps last season, scoring 20 times while adding 20 assists in 58 regular season games.

His career totals over three seasons include 38 goals, 39 assists and 66 penalty minutes over 160 games.

"Beau is a speedy, skilled forward who emerged as a consistent and reliable offensive performer during his final year of junior hockey," says Saints head coach Jeff Dubois. "We’re very excited to be adding a player of his calibre as we prepare for the season. His presence bolsters what already looks to be a strong and competitive team with high expectations for the coming year."

Taylor’s path to college hockey began in his native Australia, where he was introduced to the inline game before moving to Canada to hit the ice at a higher level. He returned home to compete in the Australian Ice Hockey League this past offseason, finishing ninth in league scoring with 45 points in 24 games.

"I’m excited to be coming to Selkirk College because it’s always been my goal to play college hockey and pursue my post-secondary education in Canada," says Taylor, who describes himself as a good skater who works hard and loves to shoot the puck. "I’m looking forward to being a part of a great team on and off the ice and working hard to succeed in the classroom."

Taylor will join his new teammates on Wednesday as they prepare for their first home exhibition game against Thompson Rivers University. Faceoff is set for 7:00 PM at the Castlegar Recreation Complex and tickets are available at the door for $5.00.
