The Okanagan College Coyotes are pleased to announce a commitment from Alberni Valley Bulldogs captain Trent Dorais (Vernon, B.C.). Dorais will attend Okanagan College next season while studying in the electrical apprenticeship program.
Dorais wore the 'C' for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the British Columbia Hockey League, where he spent his past three seasons. Trent compiled impressive numbers over five seasons in the BCHL including 205 total games played.
He started his junior career at home in Vernon where he played for two seasons before the transition to Alberni Valley. Dorais collected 34 goals and 49 assists for 83 total points over his junior career. After originally committing to play for the SAIT Trojans of the ACAC next season, Dorais decided that playing close to home and attending OC was the best option for him personally.
"We are very pleased that Trent has decided to stay in the Okanagan and play for the Coyotes next season," explains Coyotes GM Kolby Barnstable. "Adding a player of Trent’s character and skill is huge for our program. Trent is the type of player you build your roster around and we couldn’t be happier with this addition."
The Coyotes, who lose their captain Dave Mann from last season, have a substantial void to fill in their leadership group. Barnstable is confident that Dorais can step in and make an immediate impact while helping to fill a leadership role.
When asked about attending OC, Dorais says: "Okanagan College is a great fit for me and I am very excited to stay close to home and play with the Coyotes. I had a great junior hockey experience but feel I am ready to make the transition into College."
Dorais will be counted on to fill a big role for the Coyotes next season as they look to build on a 16-win campaign. Dorais is the second captain that the OC has committed for next season, joining Beaver Valley Nighthawk Chris Derochie as Okanagan’s first two commitments for the 2012-2013 season.
The Coyotes look forward to announcing additional recruits in the upcoming weeks.
