The Simon Fraser University Men’s Ice Hockey program is pleased to announce a commitment from defenceman Nicholas Wong (Burnaby, B.C.) to attend SFU and join the team for the 2012/13 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Wong had four strong seasons in the BCHL with the Cowichan Valley Capitals as well as the Coquitlam Express, accumulating 63 points and 96 penalty minutes in 181 games as a defenceman. The Burnaby native joins Coquitlam’s Bruin McDonald as two substantial additions to SFU’s blueline this offseason.
"Nick is a great addition to the team and his four years of BCHL experience should serve him well," says SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. "To have a Burnaby kid stay local and play his university hockey at SFU is tremendous. Nick had some NCAA schools down south looking at him, so we’re very fortunate to have a defenceman of his calibre."
Nicholas describes himself as a "physical defenceman that sees the ice well and can jump in the play when opportunities arise".
When asked about continuing his education and hockey career he replies, "I’m really excited to play for the SFU Men’s Ice Hockey team with my former coach and start my kinesiology degree. I’m looking forward to contributing offensively and being an asset on the team."
Wong is SFU’s third commitment for the 2012/13 season. Additional player announcements will be made in the coming weeks.
