The Eastern Washington University Men's Hockey program is pleased to announce a playing commitment from Alec Burks (West Richland, WA) to join the Eagles for the 2012/13 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Burks comes to EWU after spending the 2010/11 season with Dakota College – Bottineau (DCB) in the NCJAA. Burks chose before last season to transfer from DCB and after a year of weighing his options has decided to come to EWU.
Burks brings with him another large body that EWU has been looking to add. In his career he has played the role of a shutdown center that can also help out on the blue line if needed.
Burks stands 6’1” 185 and brings with him the history of being part of a winner with the Helena Bighorns of the Northern Pacific Hockey League in 2009/10. During his five years in the NPHL split between Tri-City and Helena, Burks posted career totals of 210 games played, 114 points and 353 penalty minutes.
EWU head coach Bill Shaw is excited by the skill set Burks' brings to the team: "We like the addition of Alec because he is versatile and helps us fulfill our goals this summer of getting bigger and tougher to play against.”
Burks plans on majoring in Psychology during his time at EWU.
