The final scoreon Friday (Mar 16) was 3-0 for SFU, who now move into the semi final onSaturday (Mar 17).“In a one game situation, you certainly need a bit of luck,” saidWolfPack forward David Gore (Kamloops, BC), playing his final game ofuniversity hockey. “ We didn’t have it today. A couple of bounceseither way and it would change the outcome.”Gore was referring to a play six minutes into thehockey game when JoseReyes(forward, Kamloops, BC) broke in on SFU goalie Graeme Gordon (NorthVancouver, BC) and rang it off the post.“It could have been 3-0 our way instead of theirs,” Gore continued.‘We can’t say we were outplayed. We didn’t deserve the loss.”“We were a puck unlucky,” said Thompson Rivers coach Don Schulz . “We also had a great chance off a rebound early on but couldnt buryit. If we had scored, who knows what the difference could have been inthe outcome. I can’t question the players efforts. They gave it allthey had. I’m proud of them.”Late in the first period, SFU went on the power play and got the gamesfirst goal.BCIHL Most Valuable Player Ben Van Lare (forward, Dallas, TX) deflecteda shot from the point which beat WolfPack goalie and player of the gameRiley Wall (Kamloops, BC).The second stanza was scoreless with both teams getting chances. Itwould be nice to start winning some of these big games instead of justin the regular season. I think every year, we really didn’t get thebounces in the playoffs. I don’t think we really lost any of them toSFU in the playoffs. It was thesame thing today.”With the loss, the careers of Gore, Dylan Becker (Smithers, BC), Thomas Gobeil (Enderby, BC), Andrew Fisher, Jassi Sangha, Kyle Allen andCody Lockwood (all Kamloops, BC) has come to an end at this level. For the Kamloops players, they had been both minor hockey and Junior“B” teamates. Gore was asked what his fondest memory of thegroup and of this team will be. “ After second semster having Jose(Reyes) come back. I have been on his team for eight or nine years now. Mick (Ludvig) came back this year. Stewie (Taylor Stewart, Smithers,BC)....I played with him on the Storm (Kamloops, KIJHL). I have beenwith Sangha and Lockwood basically my whole hockey life. It was funplaying with them. I’m going to definately remember the funny stuffin the locker room. The stupid stuff we did in school. People won’tthink they were funny but we thought they were hilarious. Hanging outin the library studying together. We studied so much. It helped me getthrough school and make it more fun.”As for the future of head coach Don Schulz? When asked if he would beback? “We have a good thing going here. Mr. Hans and I are alreadybusy recruiting. We certainly want to build on this program. We have agood foundation and really looking forward to continuing on.”
