Following a weekend of mixed results during which TRU won 4-3 against Trinity Western University and then lost 7-3 to SFU the following night, the WolfPack is hoping Saturday’s game will end with a win to cap the regular season on a positive note.
TRU will play their final regular season game on Saturday when they make the short trek to Kelowna to face second place Okanagan College.
According to head coach Don Schulz, the team’s run in with bronchitis a couple weeks ago didn’t allow them to practice as hard as he would normally have liked for last weekend’s games.
“Our conditioning has suffered a little bit and certainly our transition game really struggled on the weekend," he explained.
As a result, Schulz said that the team will be focusing on those two areas in this week’s practice. After this weekend, TRU will have a short break until they take part in the B.C. intercollegiate Hockey League Championships that will be taking place March 14-18 on WolfPack home turf at Memorial Arena.
Even though according to Schulz, “the game really has no bearing on where we are going to finish in the standings,” he still thinks, “it would be a great way to finish off the year with a road win against what’s turned out to be an interior rivalry.”
Schulz is excited about having the BCIHL Championships in town, saying "it’s a tremendous opportunity to showcase the league and have the people of Kamloops really see how competitive and how good the brand of hockey is.”
For the TRU WolfPack he’s hard to believe that the season is already over and for Schulz it seems like just yesterday the team was in September training camp.
Schulz wanted to say, “Kudus to the players for their time and commitment over and above their course loads and it’s been quite a run.”
