After some much-needed soul searching following a disappointing loss to Selkirk College on Saturday, the TRU WolfPack rebounded to score a convincing 9-3 win over the Saints in BCIHL action Sunday afternoon in Castlegar.
The 'Pack looked determined to have a better outing Sunday, but Selkirk opened the scoring early at 19:26 of the first period on a goal from Sandro Moser. TRU answered back, however, with two goals (Jassi Sangha assists David Gore, Shane Oatway at 8:23 and Andrew Fisher assists Gore and Sangha at 5:26) to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
TRU goaltender Shane Mainprize faced 8 shots while Selkirk starter Todd Hoodicoff faced 9 WolfPack shots in the first period.
The Pack had a tremendous second period shooting six pucks past Hoodicoff while only allowing one Selkirk goal against in the middle period. Drew DeFrias, Cody Lockwood, David Gore, Jassi Sangha and Kyle Allen, with a pair, accounted for the TRU scoring in the middle frame as the 'Pack outshot the Saints 19-5 in the middle period.
The teams exchanged goals in the third period as Selkirk's Roman Payne and TRU's Shane Oatway found the back of the net. Shots in the third period were 11-8 in favor of the WolfPack.
Pack Head Coach Don Schulz was pleased with the efforts: "It was a much more consistent effort; a solid 60 minutes today."
"It was gratifying today and our second period was probably our best period in a long time. We get back to work tomorrow to get ready for big games next weekend against Trinity Western and Simon Fraser University."
'Pack Puck Notes: The WolfPack play their final home game of the regular season on Friday, February 24th against Trinity Western and then travel to Burnaby the next day to meet SFU.
