The TRU WolfPack got off to a quick start in what will be a string of four consecutive road games, travelling to Vancouver Island and winning 5-1 against the University of Victoria on Saturday night.
"Riley Wall was outstanding in net and the team settled into the game and were opportunistic around the net," said head coach Don Schulz, who admitted that it wasn’t his team's best effort but was happy they came out with a win.
The game started off strong for TRU with Casey Patterson scoring the only goal of the opening period on assists from Curtis Tonello and Taylor Stuart.
During the second Victoria came back and evened the game as Doug Evans scored assisted by Brent Sutherland and Justin Ferreira. TRU got the lead back when Cody Rose scored and extended their advantage on a David Gore tally.
TRU then dominated the third period scoring the last two goals on efforts from Jassi Sangha and Mick Ludvig.
“We had trouble getting our legs going until the third," said starting netminder Riley Wall, who was outstanding in turning aside 37 Vikes shots. "Tomorrow we'll look to have a better start and shoot more.”
Sunday's rematch is set for a 4:00 PM faceoff from the Ian Stewart Complex.
