Thompson Rivers University makes their lone trip to Vancouver Island this weekend to face the University of Victoria on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s game will be the first road game that TRU has had since they faced Okanagan College back in January.
The guys are looking forward to getting away for a bit," says head coach Don Schulz. "Going on the road gives the guys a chance to bond as a team, especially for the new guys that are coming in -- this will be the first big road trip that they’ve been on."
Since the WolfPack's victory last weekend over SFU, TRU's top rival, Schulz is optimistic that his team will do well this weekend.
“UVic is going to be tough but certainly we’re looking forward to optimistically coming out with a couple of wins,” he says.
In preparation for the upcoming games this weekend, TRU has been working on their defensive zone play and structure. While Schulz did say his team has been working on their defensive zone for a while he said the team has been, “coming together in practice.”
“Having beat the team that’s first in the league certainly we want to carry that momentum on towards a team that's lower in the standings,” says Schulz. "Hopefully we'll be able to work together and play a solid 60 minute game like we did last Friday."
While being on the road means that TRU fans won't be able to cheer on the WolfPack for a while, they can look forward to TRU's next home game which will take place February 24 against Trinity Western University.
