University of Victoria forward Matthew Bell has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending January 8th.
Bell made his team's first game back from the league's winter break a memorable one as he picked up three goals and four assists in a weekend sweep of Selkirk College at the Iain Stewart Complex in Victoria.
On Saturday night, the reigning BCIHL MVP scored the Vikes' opening marker and assisted on his team's final goal of the night in an 8-3 triumph over the Saints.
Then, on Sunday afternoon, Bell fueled a third period UVic comeback with two goals and an assist in the final 20 minutes to lead his team to a 7-4 win. Down a goal entering the third, Bell sandwiched a helper on a Dustin Taylor goal in between power-play and shorthanded markers of his own and finished the game with five points.
Bell's productive weekend brought him back into the Top 10 in BCIHL scoring despite having missed a significant portion of the season. He now has 14 points in seven games played.
Runners up for this week's award include University of Victoria forward Brent Sutherland, Selkirk College forward Jordan Wood and University of Victoria goaltender Jason Margolus.
