The Simon Fraser University Men's Hockey program is pleased to announce that forward Bill Smith and defenceman Kyle Boyko have been added to the team's roster for the remainder of the 2011/12 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Smith and Boyko each played key roles in helping SFU capture back-to-back BCIHL championships in 2010 and 2011.
Smith, 23, is a former PIJHL scoring champion who has also played at the CIS level with the University of British Columbia. The North Vancouver product has been a point-a-game performer for the Clan, having picked up four goals and 15 assists in 19 regular season contests. Smith has also been a top playoff performer, having totalled four points in SFU's two championship game victories and 11 points in eight postseason games overall.
Boyko, 24, has built a reputation as a leader on the team's blueline over two full seasons with the Clan. The former Abbotsford Pilots defender was a BCIHL 1st Team All-Star in 2011 following 25-point campaign and has scored 47 points overall in 43 regular season contests.
Like Smith, Boyko has also been a key postseason contributer with a goal and nine assists to show for eight playoff games.
"We're happy to welcome Kyle and Bill back for the balance of the season," says SFU general manager Jeff Dubois. "Both have instrumental to our past success, and with such a young group this season we're thrilled to add a great deal of leadership and experience down the stretch."
Both players will make their season debuts this weekend when the Clan faces UBC in a home-and-some series. SFU hosts the Thunderbirds on Saturday, January 7th at 7:00 PM.
