The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack have been named hosts of the 2011/12 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League Championship Tournament, the league anounced Monday. The event will run March 14-18, 2012 at Kamloops Memorial Arena.
The WolfPack were given formal approval to host the event at the BCIHL Board of Governers meeting in Vancouver this past weekend (Dec 10-11).
“This is an opportunity to put on a first-class collegiate hockey event,” said WolfPack general manager Chris Hans. “I think having TRU involved will make it a bigger, better event than in the past."
The WolfPack have participated in both BCIHL Championship Tournaments since joining the lague in 2009, having advanced to the Finals in 2010 in Langley and 2011 in Burnaby.
“We are extremely pleased to be hosting the hockey championships this year," said WolfPack Athletic Director Ken Olynyk. "Our team has played well over the past couple of years and hosting the championship is a reflection of both the play of the team and the organization and support of the hockey society.”
Hans says a lot of volunteers will be needed and the call for them will go out immediately.
“We'll need everything from ticket takers, ushers, goal judges, score keepers, etc,” he states. “ Also of course, having fans come out to watch an excellent brand of hockey would be great too!
