TRU will play their two final games before the Christmas break on Saturday and Sunday against Selkirk College at Memorial Arena. This will be the first time that the teams have faced one another this season.
Gametimes against the sixth-places Saints are 8:00 PM on Saturday and an early 11:00 AM start on Sunday.
WolfPack head coach Don Schulz says there's little to go on when it comes to what to what to expect from Selkirk, other than what he can see from the standings and statistics.
“We can only infer what they’re like based on what we’ve seen from the scores," says Schulz.
According to Schulz, the team is concentrating on, “maintaining things that we've worked on in the past. I try to incorporate new ways of presenting things that they’ve already learned so that it sparks their interest.”
But with the fall semester winding down, Schulz admits that his players "have a lot going on in their minds.”
"They've got finals coming up, it’s time for term papers and all that kind of stuff to come in.”
“I think guys have started to get to that point where they want a break from school,” said assistant captain Cody Lockwood.
When asked how they want to finish the semester, Lockwood said, “we’re just going to go into this game with the mentality of how we’ve been playing and try to keep our winning streak going.”
Forward Travis Herlein agrees, saying the team is definitely ready for the challenge.
“We have a really mature group of guys here and we have great leaders that are able to get us ready and focused.”
Schulz concurs, saying that “for the most part out guys have really maintained their focus well, I was really encouraged by our practice last night and we want that to continue the rest of the week.”
The team will practice until December 14th and then break until the New Year.
For anyone who’s been meaning to get out and catch a TRU hockey game this will be their last chance for quite a while. Their next scheduled game is Friday Jan. 20th against Okanagan College.
