Okanagan's Aaron Buat headlines Player of the Month winners for November

The British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League has unveiled its award winners for the month of November.

Player of the Month - Aaron Buat, Okanagan College

An upswing in Buat's play helped the Coyotes finish the month unbeaten in five games (4-0-1), as the Kelowna native picked up four goals and 11 points in five games. After being held scoreless in a 4-4- tie with TRU to start the month, Buat broke out with three points in a weekend series at UVic before putting up four points in back-to-back wins over Eastern and Selkirk College. The 22-year old now sits third amongst BCIHL scorers.

Defenceman of the Month - Shane Oatway, Thompson Rivers University

Oatway's steady play on the blueline helped the WolfPack to an unbeaten November that included three wins and a tie. The former BCHL and AJHL standout picked up three assists in four games to go along with a plus-minus rating of +8. The 21-year old currently sits tied with teammate Curtis Tonello for fifth in league scoring amongst defencemen with nine points through 12 games.

Goaltender of the Month - Evan Kurylo, Simon Fraser University 

Kurylo picked up three wins in three starts during the month on November and notched his first shutout of the season with 16 saves in a 7-0 win over Eastern Washington on Nov. 11th. The Edson, AB product was beaten just three times on the month, improving his league-leading GAA and SV%  to 1.71 and .925 respectively. Kurylo now sits at 6-0-1 on the season and has yet to lose a BCIHL games in 12 appearances.

Rookie of the Month - Kye Benjaminsen, Trinity Western University

The former Delta Icehawks sniper enjoyed a five-game points streak during November, putting up six goals and three assists for the month. He had three multi-point games, though none were more impressive than a three-point effort on Nov. 25th that led the Spartans to a tie after trailing EWU by a 3-0 score heading into the third period. Overall, the Delta, B.C. native sits seventh in league scoring with 14 points in 12 games.
