The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack showed well in their first road contest in over a month on Saturday, picking up a 6-1 victory over the Trinity Western Spartans at the Langley Events Centre.
The win marked the third straight for the 'Pack, who moved to 5-3-2 on the season and into third place in the BCIHL standings.
Mick Ludvig opened the scoring at 17:58 of the first period with assists from Joshua McDonald and Duncan Schulz. The team didn’t stop there, as Schulz scored to put TRU up 2-0 at 11:12, assisted by Joshua McDonald and Cody Lockwood. Jassi Sangha then scored the final goal of the period at 6:34 to give his team a 3-0 lead heading into intermission.
Kevin nielsen and Kyle Allan -- in his first game back following a two-month layoff due to a concussion -- each scored in the second to extend the lead to 5-0. TWU's Kye Benjaminsen and Allen, on assists from Shulz and MacDonald, traded goals in the third.
Riley Wall picked up the win in net for the WolfPack, turning aside 34 shots to improve his record on the season to 3-2-2.
“Riley played awesome tonight stopping some key shots,” said assistant captain Cody Lockwood. "And it was good to get on the road again and be on the bus with the guys."
According to head Coach Don Schulz, the team played a good game despite, “the opposition being chippy and the officiating being questionable."
“Our guys stayed the course, kept their composure and played well,” he explained. “We started out strong, scoring a couple quick goals. I thought we executed offensively really well."
The WolfPack are back on the ice on Saturday night when they host the first of two weekend games against Selkirk College. Faceoff from Memorial Arena is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
