Thompson Rivers University and the University of Victoria will battle this weekend in the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League as both teams look to move up in the league standings.
The two teams will go head to head for the first time this year at Memorial Arena on Friday, November 18th at 8:30PM. The teams will meet again the following night at 8:30 PM.
“We are certainly looking forward to seeing them for the first time,” WolfPack Head Coach Don Schulz says.
Coming into this weekend’s games the 'Pack certainly wants to improve their performance from their most recent game on November 5th, where TRU lost a 4-2 goal lead in the last couple minutes and was forced to settle for a tie with Okanagan College.
“We expect a game where we will have to play well for 60 minutes to come away with 2 points that we desperately need,” says leading scorer Jassi Sangha.
Since the teams has had a break with no game this past weekend Schulz, “intends on working the guys pretty hard (this week).” Along with working on their defensive zone play, both Schulz and Sangha agreed the team needs to work on playing consistently throughout the entire 60 minutes.
“I thought against Okanagan we played really well for 56 minutes but we let them off the hook for about 3 or 4 minutes and we ended up getting a tie instead of a win," the coach remarked.
Both Schulz and third-year forward David Gore are hoping for TRU to come away with two wins this weekend.
“It would be nice to win the rest of the games this semester and get our standing up,” says Gore.
“We are 2 points out of third place, so we need these four points on the weekend,” Sangha agreed.
With a full week of solid preparation TRU should be prepared to give UVIC a good game.
“UVIC is just another league opponent so we going to have to have our A game for sure,” Schultz commented.
As always, the team encourages people to come out to the game and, “support an awesome, fun packed TRU Hockey experience.”
