Selkirk's Wood named BCIHL Player of the Week after hat trick in win

Selkirk College forward Jordan Wood has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending October 16th.

Wood helped the Saints to their first victory of the season and their second-ever win over the University of Victoria, tallying a hat trick in a 4-2 triumph over the Vikes.

The rookie forward opened the scoring on a first period effort assisted by Adam Makaroff and Devin Nazaroff and added a pair in the third, including the game winner.

First, at the 15:09 mark, Wood beat UVic netminder Taylor Pears off a feed from linemate Andrew Green. Then, minutes later and with the Saints shorthanded, he converted a Scott Jago feed for his third on the evening.

Wood followed up on Friday's effort with a goal and an assist in a 6-3 loss to Victoria the following night, and closed out the weekend with five points in two games.

Runners up for this week's award include Thompson Rivers forward Jassi Sangha, Simon Fraser forward Chris Hoe and University of Victoria forward Matthew Bell
