SFU's Van Lare named BCIHL Player of the Week following 4-point effort

Simon Fraser University forward Ben Van Lare has been named the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League's Player of the Week for the week ending October 23rd.

Van Lare helped keep the Clan unbeaten in early season action, scoring twice and assisting on two other goals in a 7-4 victory over Thompson Rivers on Saturday night.

The fourth-year forward assisted on Jono Ceci's power-play goal in the first period before netting two of his own during the midle frame. He then set up linemate Taylor Piller's shorthanded tally early in the third.

Van Lare leads all BCIHL goal scorers with seven after four games, while also being tied for the league points lead with 11. He is thriving in his second BCIHL campaign following two seasons with Dalhousie University in the CIS; he scored 28 points in 24 games and was named a League 2nd Team All-Star with SFU in 2010/11.

Runners up for this week's award include Okanagan College forward Chris Glen, Selkirk College forward Andrew Green and Eastern Washington goaltender Cash Ullrich.
