Greenwell helps Eagles stay perfect with home ice win over Trinity Western

Eastern Washington University remained perfect in their inaugural BCIHL season, picking up their third victory in as many attempts with a 5-2 decision over Trinity Western at the friendly confines of the Eagles Ice Arena.

Matthew Markowsky had put the Spartans on the board early with a power-play marker, but Eastern replied with a foursome of goals before intermission. Jake Flynn initially brought the Eagles even before Bret Kellogg and Ryan Pajimola added man-advantage goals and Josh Jesberger counted a fourth.

Brandon Long brought Trinity Western within a pair early in the second frame, but the Spartans could not nudge any closer before AJ Sanders eventually restored the Eagles' three-goal advantage on a final-minute power-play. A scoreless third period would later put a wrap on a 5-2 EWU win.

Jason Greenwell picked up the win in net for Eastern, turning aside 42 shots on a night where the home team was outshot by a 44-24 margin.

JP Chapman got the start in net for TWU but gave way to Tim Zwiers after allowing three first-period goals. Zwiers allowed a pair in the remaining 45 minutes of action.

Notes: The teams play again on Saturday night to complete their two-game weekend series. Faceoff is set for 7:30 PM. TWU defenceman Aaron Heggie will miss three games to suspension following a fight that represented his third major penalty of the young season. EWU forward Ryan Pajimola could also miss time after being assessed a match penalty late in the third period.
