Home sweet home.
After dropping the first two games of the 2011-12 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season on the road last weekend to Eastern Washington University, the TRU WolfPack were quite happy to play their home opener Friday night against Trinity Western in the friendly confines of Memorial Arena.
The 'Pack took a 2-0 lead into the dressing room after one period on power-play goals from Jassi Sangha (assists to Andrew Fisher and David Gore) at 13:08 and Mick Ludvig (assists to Travis Herlein and Joshua MacDonald) at 1:27. TRU outshot Trinity Western 20-13 in the 1st period.
The WolfPack extended their lead to 4-0 on a power-play goal from Curtis Tonello (assists to Shane Oatway and Jassi Sangha) at 16:38 and an even strength marker from Andrew Fisher (assists to Shane Oatway and David Gore) at 4:51 of the 2nd period.
Trevor Beaupre put the Spartans on the board with his first of three on the night scored for TWU at 2:12 of the 2nd period.
TRU extended their lead to 5-1 at 13:40 of the 3rd period on Jassi Sangha's 2nd goal of the evening (assists to Curtis Tonello and Lucas Daoust). Beaupre completed his hat-trick with goals at 10:29 and 2:35 of the final period.
Riley Wall earned the win tending goal for the WolfPack stopping 27 of 30 TWU shots. Tim Zwiers took the loss in net for TWU stopping 38 of 43 WolfPack shots.
The same teams meet Saturday in Langley with an afternoon game at 1pm at the Langley Events Centre.

The 'Pack play at SFU October 22nd and host SFU Friday October 28th at 8:30pm.
