The Selkirk College Men’s Ice Hockey program is pleased to announce a commitment from forward Nick Cecconi (Powell River, B.C.) to join the Saints for the 2011/12 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Cecconi joins the Saints following three seasons with the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League's Princeton Posse, where he scored 35 goals and totalled 75 points in 132 career games. The six-foot, 190-pound forward had a career year in his final year of junior hockey, hitting the 20-goal plateau while picking up 38 points in 50 games.
The Saints' newest recruit should also provide a physical presence, as he collected 524 penalty minutes during his time in the KIJHL.
“Nick's commitment brings added skill, depth and toughness to our roster,” says Selkirk College athletics director Kim Verigin. “Nick has proven himself as a hard-working, tough and committed player at the junior level and we look forward to his contributions in helping to build the Saints hockey program into a championship contender.”
"I am very excited to be furthering my education and continuing my hockey career at Selkirk College," says Cecconi. "It looks to be a great school with a team that shows a lot of promise. I look forward to contributing in any way that I can to help the Saints to a successful season."
Cecconi is the fourth player to commit to the Saints this offseason, joining Kelowna Chiefs forward Jordan Wood, Victoria Cougars defenceman Justin Sotkowy and Kimberley Dynamiters defenceman Sandro Moser.
