The Eastern Washington University Men's Hockey program is pleased to announce a playing commitment from Devin Norris (Willmar, MN) to the Eagles for the 2011/12 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Norris joins the Eagles from San Jose State University of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, where he netted seven points in 37 games as a freshman during the 2009/10 campaign before missing all but two games due to a shoulder injury last season.
Sandwiched between those two seasons was a stint with Seattle of the
Northern Pacific Hockey League (NORPAC) that saw him score four points in 25 contests while helping the Totems qualify for a spot at the 2010 American Junior A Championships. Devin is originally from Minnesota and also brings experience playing in the state's elite high school hockey league, which rivals many North American junior league for calibre of of play and the number of prospects drafted into the NHL.
“Devin's commitment helps us fill a need down the middle," says Eagles head coach Bill Shaw. "We have been looking for a defensive center all summer and he plays that role well. His size (6’1”, 200lbs) allows him the ability to provide a physical presence as well."
This brings the total of playing commitments to five. EWU will release the season schedule soon; stay tuned to the website (www.ewuhockey.com) for 2011/12 season updates including promotional nights and season ticket packages.
