Simon Fraser University adds forward Colton Graf from MJHL's Dauphin Kings

SFU Men's Hockey

The Simon Fraser University Men's Ice Hockey program is pleased to announce a commitment from forward Colton Graf (Watson, SK) to attend SFU and join the team for the 2011/12 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League season.

Graf is a 6-foot, 210-pound forward who comes to SFU with over 200 games of Major Junior and Junior A experience. The 21-year old began his junior career with the Western Hockey League's Chilliwack Bruins, suiting up in 24 games over two seasons. He then joined the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Battlefords North Stars, where he scored 17 goals and 29 assists in 85 games.

Graf’s final junior hockey stop came with the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, who he helped to League and Regional championships during a 2009/10 campaign that culminated in an appearance in the RBC Cup. Last season, he set a career high in scoring with 51 points. He totalled 33 goals, 59 assists and 58 penalty minutes in 111 regular season games with the Kings.

“Colton is a versatile, two-way centre who will bring a strong work ethic and championship experience to the Clan hockey program,” says SFU general manager Jeff Dubois. “His offensive numbers have increased consistently over the last three seasons and we expect he’ll continue to hone that side of his game while being counted upon to contribute in key defensive situations as well.”

“I chose SFU because it’s a fantastic school and getting a good education is important to me,” says Graf. “I consider myself to be a good playmaker and a good passer who has can finish around the net by using my size and strength. I feel that I can play in any role and I like to play physical, and I’m looking forward to helping the team win another league championship.”

The addition of Graf brings SFU’s commitment total for the 2011/12 season to 15. He joins a group that includes:
  • Graeme Gordon, G, Vernon Vipers/BCHL
  • Tyler Mah, D, Flin Flon/SJHL
