Trinity Western University men’s hockey coach Dwayne Lowdermilk is excited to announce the signing of defenceman Jonathan Demme (Brampton, Ont.) who will join the Spartans this fall after a lengthy career playing in the Ontario Provincial Junior “A” Hockey League.
“Jonathan is a big strong stay-at-home type of defenceman,” Lowdermilk said. “He’s very strong in his own zone and makes a great first pass. He’ll be a physical presence on the defensive end and will dominate down low in clearing bodies and giving our goalies a good chance to see shots.”
The 6-foot-3, 198-pound Demme comes to Trinity Western after three years in the OJHL, where he had five goals, 32 assists and 68 penalty minutes in 123 games. He also had two assists and 15 penalty minutes in 17 playoff games.
Last year, Demme played for the Villanova Knights where he had his most productive season in the OJHL, registering 12 points and 14 penalty minutes in 38 games. Prior to Villanova, he played nine games with the Orangeville Crushers in 2009-10 and 76 games with the Brampton Capitals from 2008-2010.
“As soon as I arrived at Trinity Western to check out the campus, I knew it was an opportunity I couldn't pass up,” Demme said. “I was really attracted to the Langley Events Centre. It's a tremendous facility. I also love the campus and think that the human kinetics program will be an excellent fit academically."
"After talking to coach Lowdermilk I know he is committed to building a strong program and is looking to achieve a high level of success, which is very important to me. I'm excited to be a part of this program and hope to be a part of a championship team during my time here at Trinity Western.”
Last year, the Spartans had a regular season record of 10-12-2, which earned them a spot in the BCIHL’s five-team playoff. With one win and two losses in the playoffs, Trinity Western finished fourth for the fifth year in a row.
