The Simon Fraser University Men’s Ice Hockey program is pleased to announce a commitment from forward Taylor Piller (Saskatoon, SK) to attend SFU and join the team for the 2011/12 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Piller joins SFU following a distinguished junior career with the Humboldt Broncos and La Ronge Ice Wolves of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, where he is the only player to have ever won four consecutive league championships. The 20-year old scored 29 goals and 71 points in 176 regular season SJHL games and collected 18 points in 50 playoff contests. He was a part of the Broncos’ RBC Cup-winning squad in 2008 and made a total of three trips to the Canada’s Junior A national championships.
“Taylor plays a physical two-way game and has proven to be very effective in a shutdown role against top forwards,” says SFU general manager Jeff Dubois. “We really place a premium on players who come from winning programs and understand our high expectations for team performance. I expect that Taylor will add a great deal of character and experience during his career at SFU.” “SFU is a highly respected institution and my education means alot to me,” says Piller.
“I look forward to continuing my hockey career with a successful program that is committed to winning. My strengths are being a smart and physical player who excels at both ends of the ice and I intend to make an immediate impact and contribute to the success of the team.”
The addition of Piller brings SFU’s commitment total for the 2011/12 season to 8. He joins defencemen Tyler Mah (Flin Flon/SJHL), Derek Henderson (Grand Prairie/AJHL), Kenton Valliant (Portage/MJHL) and Taylor Swaffield (Trail/BCHL) as well as forwards Mike Krgovich (Coquitlam/BCHL), Tony Oak (Battlefords/SJHL), and Trevor Milner (Notre Dame/SJHL).
