The Simon Fraser University’s Men’s Ice Hockey program is pleased to announce a commitment from forward Trevor Milner (North Vancouver, B.C.) to attend SFU and join the team for the 2011/12 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Milner comes to SFU from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, where he spent the past two seasons as a member of the Notre Dame Hounds. The 21-year old scored 13 goals and totalled 29 points in his final year of junior hockey, bringing his career Junior A totals to 17 goals, 26 assists and 110 penalty minutes in 98 games played. Prior to joining Notre Dame, Milner netted 20 goals and 47 points in 45 games as an 18-year old with the Pacific International Junior Hockey League’s Grandview Steelers.
“Trevor is a versatile two-way player who will be able to step in and contribute in all situations,” says SFU general manager Jeff Dubois. “He’s a hard working young man who really began to see some success offensively over last few months at Notre Dame. We’re looking forward to Trevor being a big piece of our team in the years to come.”
“SFU was the best choice for me in order to get a study at a top university while also being able to continue to play hockey at a high level,” says Milner, who lists his speed and smart play at both ends of the ice as his greatest strengths. “I’m expecting myself to jump right into the line-up and make an immediate and I’m looking forward to helping the team towards another winning season.”
The addition of Milner brings SFU’s commitment total for the 2011/12 season to 7. He joins defencemen Tyler Mah (Flin Flon/SJHL), Derek Henderson (Grand Prairie/AJHL), Kenton Valliant (Portage/MJHL) and Taylor Swaffield (Trail/BCHL) as well as forwards Mike Krgovich (Coquitlam/BCHL) and Tony Oak (Battlefords/SJHL).
