The Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack men’s hockey team has added two new players to their roster as they head into the second half of the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League regular season. The Wolfpack have added forward Kyle Allan out of Kamloops and defenseman Dylan Becker from Smithers, B.C.
Allan is a former captain of the Nelson Leafs of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League who is studying to become a school teacher. Kyle has been focusing on coaching and had lead the Bantam and Midget AAA programs as Head Coach over the past three seasons. He was an assistant coach with the Kamloops Bantam T2 team as he attended TRU during the first semester prior to joining the team for the second half of the 2010/11 season.
"Kyle is a mature player that will be a strong performer for us as we head into the second half of our regular season," says TRU head coach Lorne Cumming. "Kyle’s experience has already shown on the ice as he understands the small details of the game are what support that results a team is looking for to have success. Kyle is a great addition to our roster that will make us stronger for our run to the playoffs."
Dylan Becker is a former Princeton Posse and Kamloops Storm defenceman who has brought excellent work ethic and a strong compete level to the team. Dylan is a stay-at-home defender who has solidified the Wolfpack’s defense group as the team seeks out the most competitive players available to fill roster spots. Dylan is studying to become a police officer and is a player the team is happy to have on board.
"Dylan Becker is a player who understands the value of playing a strong game through winning battles and making strong plays at all times. Dylan fits in well with our group because he is a proud guy who wants to win and we know we will be in a better position to win big games as a result of having him with us. Dylan needed to see if playing could fit into his course load and we’re very happy he decided to play in the second semester."
The Wolfpack have also lost a total of four players for the coming semester. Second year forward Jose Reyes is moving on with his studies to attend SAIT in Calgary, Daren Hermiston as he has accepted a sports agent position with a Vancouver firm while he finishes his commerce degree at TRU, forward Dan Robinson as he has chosen to not continue playing with a shoulder injury that has kept him out of the line up this season, and defenseman Jordan Wilkins as his course schedule directly conflicted with the Wolfpack’s regular season schedule.
“The Wolfpack board of directors and hockey staff would like to wish all of these players the very best of luck with their career and education pursuits, and thanks them for their contributions to the Wolfpack hockey program,” says Cumming.
