Thompson Rivers back on track with Sunday afternoon victory over UFV

The TRU Wolfpack Men’s Hockey club added to their win column in B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League action on Sunday with a 4-1 win over the University of the Fraser Valley on the road in Abbotsford.

Backstopped by a solid outing from goaltender Richie Virtanen, the 'Pack outshot UFV by a 52-28 margin over three periods.

The Wolfpack led 1-0 after the first thanks to a goal by Andrew Fisher, who was set up by David Gore on a TRU man-advantage. The game remained tight through the second where the Wolfpack needed timely saves from Virtanen and strong penalty killing from their special teams as they found themselves in the penalty box for a considerable amount of the period.

The 'Pack came out strong in the third, however, getting goals from Casey Patterson, Zac Rasmussen and Korey Gannon to take the two points.

The Wolfpack now have 10 wins and 2 losses for 20 points at the mid-way point of their regular season. That is good for 2nd place in the BCIHL one point back of SFU with two games in hand.

"It's nice to get back on track with tonight’s win," said TRU head coach Lorne Cumming. "I thought that tonight’s win was a result of a great effort from everybody in the lineup. We played a solid team game tonight.”

The Wolfpack return to the ice on Friday when they travel to play the Trinity Western University and look to avenge last weeks 2-1 loss to the Spartans in Langley.

The Wolfpack’s next home game is rapidly approaching as the 'Pack host the Selkirk College Saints on Saturday January 22nd. Game time is 8:00 pm at historic Memorial Arena.
