The Simon Fraser University’s Men’s Ice Hockey program is pleased to announce a commitment from forward Christopher Hoe to attend SFU and join the team for the second half of the 2010/11 B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season when the spring semester commences in January.
Hoe will join Simon Fraser after two seasons spent with the British Columbia Hockey League’s Salmon Arm SilverBacks. The 20-year old totalled four goals and 22 points in 34 regular season games last year as well as four points in six playoff contests. He also contributed seven goals and 14 points in 51 games as a rookie during the 2008/09 campaign.
Prior to joining the SilverBacks, Hoe was a top-ranked prospect in B.C.’s Major Midget League, where he finished third overall in scoring with 65 points while playing for the Vancouver North West Giants.
"Chris is a tremendous young man and an excellent addition to our team as we continue working to defend the BCIHL championship," SFU head coach Mark Coletta says. "First and foremost, he’s a very intelligent player who is capable of making a significant impact at both ends of the ice. We expect him to step into our line-up and make some very positive contributions from day one."
Hoe’s addition brings the total number of former BCHL players in the SFU line-up to six, as he joins forwards Colby Kulhanek (Burnaby Express), Mitch Labreche (Powell River Kings), Kyle Leung (Williams Lake Timberwolves) and Patrik Martin (Trail Smoke Eaters), as well as goaltender Justin Mulholland (Surrey Eagles).
"I’m very excited to begin studying at a university with SFU’s academic reputation," says Hoe. "The opportunity to continue playing hockey close to home in front of family and friends was a big factor for me and I’m looking forward to contributing to a contending team this season and in the years to come."
Hoe will make his BCIHL debut on Friday night when SFU hosts Selkirk College. Face-off is set for 8:00 PM at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre.
