Selkirk College kicks of 2011 with Lower Mainland road swing

The Selkirk College Saints will look to leave 2010 in the rearview mirror this weekend when the team travels to the Lower Mainland for road games against Simon Fraser and Trinity Western.

The trip shapes up as a stiff challenge for the Saints, who are a combined 0-4 against SFU and TWU this season. Their last trip to the Coast included a 9-1 defeat at the hands of the Spartans, while a victory against Simon Fraser would be the first for the squad in 16 meetings.

But Selkirk College did prove a tough visitor on a November road swing through the Okanagan, as the Saints challenged Thompson Rivers and Okanagan College in a pair of tight losses. Those efforts, plus a fall semester road victory over the University of the Fraser Valley, have proven that Selkirk can challenge in any venue.

The Saints will be missing a key player on the weekend as Caleb Georgetti serves the final two games of a three-game suspension for a match penalty incurred against the Spartans on November 27th. The trio of Travis Herlein, Scott Traverse and Scott Jago will be counted on to produce in Georgetti's absence and continue the offensive production that has seen the line combine for 21 points in 12 games.

In goal, Spenser Wong enjoyed a productive first half to his BCIHL rookie season even if the stats may not have showed his true value. Wong has stopped a league-high 439 shots in 11 appearances, which is a whopping 138 more pucks than second place John-Paul Chapman from TWU.
