One night after giving Thompson Rivers University all they could handle in a narrow loss, the Selkirk Saints put forth their second strong effort in as many games but fell short in a 4-3 defeat at the hands of Okanagan College on Saturday at Kelowna Memorial Arena.
Caleb Georgettti opened the scoring for the visitors midway through the first period, but Brady Mason evened the score a minute later before Devin Gelowitz gave the Coyotes a lead heading into intermission. The Saints drew the score even in the second off the stick of Travis Herlein, but back-to-back markers from Aaron Buat and Curt Morrison gave Okanagan a two-goal cushion heading into the third.
Herlein made the game interesting with his second of the night just 1:09 into the third, but the hosts held Selkirk to six third periods shots and escaped with their eighth win in 10 games to open the season.
Spenser Wong was strong in net for the Saints, turning aside 41 shots. He was particularly sharp in the third period, when he held Okanagan without a goal on 15 shots. Adam Butler made 25 saves in the win.
