Simon Fraser University showed no sign of bus rust in their first of back-to-back match-ups with Selkirk College on Friday night, firing 42 shots on the Saints goal en route to a 7-0 victory at the Castlegar Recreation Complex.
SFU came out firing early but didn't score until the team's 15th shot of the first period when Warren Gardner crossed the Selkirk blueline and blew a slap shot past Saints' netminder Spenser Wong. Colby Kulhanek extended the lead to three with back-to-back goals in the first and second before Mitch Labreche, Tadz Brown, Kyle Leung and James Mercer added singles to close out the scoring.
In net, Justin Mulholland recorded his firts shut-out of the season with a 34-save effort. Wong took the loss after allowing seven goals on 42 shots, but deserved better in a game where he made a number of point-blank saves.
Kulhanek led SFU on the scoresheet, finishing the night with two goals and four points, while Kyle Boyko extended his league-leading points streak to eight games.
The teams will meet again on Saturday afternoon with face-off set for 4:00 PM. Rookie netminder Andrew Parent is expected to receive his first regular season start for SFU, while forward Anthony Ferrari will return from a one-game suspension served Friday night.
