Victoria fights back to even weekend series with Okanagan College

One night after seeing their four-game winning streak snapped at the hands of first place Okanagan College, the University of Victoria Vikes responded with a gritty effort to grab a 4-2 victory and a split of the two-game series at Kelowna's Memorial Arena.

Victoria was quick out of the gate as Mathew Brown opened the scoring just 50 seconds into regulation off a play set up by Tommy Adair and Mitchell Bell. But Okanagan replied with a pair off the stick of Aaron Buat to take a lead into intermission.

Francis Gonella evened the scored midway through the second period, setting up a third that would see the Vikes score a pair of goals in 48 seconds to tale the lead for good. Brown struck with 13:27 remaining in the game and Doug Evans connected for his first goal of the season at 12:16.

Simon Barer collected his second win in as many starts for Victoria, turning aside 30 shots. At the other end of the ice, Tony Johnston faced 32 shots in the loss.

Friday's contest saw the Coyotes triumph 4-0 on a night where Adam Butler picked up a 22-save shutout and forwards Sasha Golin and Brock Munro each counted a goal and an assist.

Both Okanagan and Victoria now have a weekend to rest before their next set of BCIHL games. The Coyotes are back in action on November 13th when they host Selkirk College, while Victoria plays host to SFU in a two-game series on November 13th and 14th.
