TRU-SFU battle marks 1st official meeting since 2010 Championship Game

TRU-SFU battle marks 1st official meeting since 2010 Championship Game

TRU Athletics

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack hockey team plays at home Friday October 29th when they host Simon Fraser University Clan in B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League action. Puck drop is at 8:30 pm.

The match up at the old barn on Victoria Street will is no doubt be the hockey game of the early season as it touts last year’s top two teams in a rematch of last year’s championship game which saw SFU edge TRU by one goal 2-1. Tickets are on sale as local outlets: Earls, Sport Chek, Players Bench and Taco Del Mar or at the door.

TRU and SFU have met in two games previously this season, in an exhibition play where the Pack came up short with a 4-1 loss in the first game on September 17th in Burnaby and then a 8-6 win at home on September 18th at Memorial Arena.

Leading up to this weekend against SFU WolfPack Head Coach Lorne Cumming said; "Our players are looking forward to getting back on the ice this Friday against SFU. We felt we played pretty well last weekend against Kelowna and did not get the win so our guys are pretty determined to put together another strong game."

"After last weekend's game in Kelowna our guys are pretty excited to compete again. We've worked hard every week to be ready to play our best hockey and we know SFU has also. There will be no need to motivate our guys."

On Friday the hockey club has a great night of events planned for the best fans in the city and league. The game is our annual TRU Recreation night and will include:

- The Premiere of TRU Hockey Molson Beer Gardens.
- Little WolfPack skaters joining the team on ice for the anthem
- Halloween costumes are supported and prizes will be given away
- A puck shoot during the second intermission, tickets will be given away at the door and three people from the crowd will be randomly chosen.
- Rivers bar, post game costume party which most players will be attending.

"Friday night's game against SFU will be an exciting night of hockey for our players, staff, and fans. Memorial Arena is a tough place for visiting teams to come into and Friday night will be no different. Our guys are still upset about last Friday's loss against Okanagan College after they felt they played a pretty good team game, and that will spill over onto the ice against SFU. We look forward to playing in front of our Wolfpack fans who are the best fans in the league Friday night, and giving them some excellent hockey to watch."

ICE CHIPS: Five WolfPack players lead the Pack’ Zac Rasmussen is tied for third in league scoring all with 9 points in five games: Tyler Halliday, Jassi Sangha, Lucas Daoust, and Darcy Huisman are all tied for fourth in league scoring with 8 points each in five games, and Darcy Huisman leads all Defensemen with 1 goal and 7 assists.
