After having a the Thanksgiving weekend off, the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack is set to host the University of Fraser Valley at Memorial Arena on Friday with puck drop scheduled for 8:30 PM.
Friday marks a special night at Memorial, as the Kamloops Collegiate Hockey Society and TRU WolfPack hockey team will be proudly supporting the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Fundraising events include a pink puck toss during the second intermission with all proceeds going towards the Breast Cancer Foundation. Pink pucks will be selling for $5 each. There will also be a raffle going on throughout the entire game for WolfPack prizes.
"It'll be great for our guys to get back into competition after the holiday break," says TRU head coach Lorne Cumming. "I know every player on this team is eager to play and after the two successful road games in the Kootenays vs. Selkirk College, the group is feeling strong. I know we'll be ready after a great week of practice, and we all know UFV will come in prepared to play. We expect a lot of intensity from the opening puck drop on Friday night."
The WolfPack enter the weekend 3-0 and sit atop the BCIHL standings. The University of the Fraser Valley is coming off a 7-4 loss to the University of Victoria and is 0-4 in 4 games. Some might think having nearly 12 days off between games might be a disadvantage, but Cumming sees it another way.
"I like having a bit of a break after our opening weekend as it has allowed us the opportunity to work on team systems. Our group is a very committed group of players that are very determined. They know there's a lot of competition from within our own dressing room in order to be in the line-up and they are very ready to play.“
Game tickets can be purchased at local outlets including: Sport Chek, Players Bench, Earls and Taco Del Mar, in addition they will be available at the door for $5 for Adults and $3for TRU Students and Seniors.
SLAPSHOTS: The only injury the WolfPack have is forward Daniel Robinson (100 Mile House, BC). He remains on injured reserve and is out until further notice with a shoulder injury.
Tyler Halliday (Kamloops, BC) and Zac Rasmussen (Kamloops, BC) lead the TRU squad in scoring. Halliday has 3 goals and 4 assists in 3 games. Rasmussen has 2 goals and 5 assists in thise 3 games.
