WolfPack score early, often in Home Opener win over Okanagan

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack opened their 2010/11 BCIHL regular season on a high Saturday, downing the Okanagan College Coyotes 7-1 at Memorial Arena before 850 excited fans.

The 'Pack started with their first goal 31 seconds in and never looked back. The win put the squad one win on their trail to redemption after falling one game short of the league championship in their inaugural season last year.

In an opening night ceremony that included a presentation of $9500 towards the TRU WolfPack Hockey program by Murray Owen (President) and Frank Rossi (Director) on behalf of the Kamloops Blazers Sports Society/Kamloops Blazers Legacy Fund.

VIP dignitaries in attendance for opening faceoff and presentation, Roger Barnsley (TRU President and Vice-Chancellor), Christopher Seguin (VP, Advancement), Ken Olynyk (Athletics Director), Pat O'Brian (OCC Alumni and former Athletics Director), Blake Tancock and David Boychuk (WolfPack Alumni) and Mitch Zulinick (President, Kamloops Collegiate Hockey Society).

Jassi Sangha paced the 'Pack attack with two goals, including one shorthanded. Tyler Halliday chipped in 2 goals and an assist while David Gore had one goal and two helpers for the WolfPack. Former Kamloops Storm goalie Anthony Manfredi was a standout in net facing 37 shots for the win while allowing only one goal against.

Next up for the 'Pack is a road series on October 1st and 2nd when they visit Castlegar to take on the Selkirk College Saints in B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League play.
