The Selkirk College Saints Men’s Hockey program is pleased to announce playing commitments from forwards Scott Jago and Travis Herlein for the 2010/11 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League season.
Jago is a Castlegar Minor Hockey alumnus who recently completed his junior hockey career with the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s Nelson Leafs. The 21-year old set career highs during the 2009/10 season, scoring 23 goals and 51 points in 45 games. Overall, Jago put up 88 points in two seasons with the Leafs, helping the club earn a KIJHL League Championship in 2009 and an Eddie Mountain Conference title in 2010.
Jago also spent two seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League, splitting time between the Victoria Grizzlies and Trail Smoke Eaters.
“We are very pleased to have Scott commit to the team,” says Saints athletic director Kim Verigin. “He is a very skilled and agile forward whose stats back up his value and he’s a great local hockey product that can have this opportunity close to home.”
Herlein joins the Saints after captaining the Golden Rockets during the 2009/10 season. The Calgary, AB native set career highs last season with 23 goals and 42 points and completed his career in the KIJHL with 62 goals and 47 assists in 130 regular season games. The 20-year old also brings a physical presence, as evidenced by 449 penalty minutes over three junior seasons.
“Travis is big strong power forward who’s size and skill will give us a net presence we were lacking last year,” comments Jamie Friess, assistant coach/recruiter for the Saints. “His physical play will be a welcome addition.”
The Saints begin training camp during the first week back to school in September.
