The Trinity Western University Titans didn’t disappoint in their final game of an impressive january, picking up two more points in the BCIHL standings while widening their lead over the Selkirk College Saints with a 7-4 win on Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.
Veteran forward Josh Macknee and rookie Andrew Heringer both tallied hat tricks while rookie Bensen Wu netted a single goal. Macknee's three-goal performance moved him up the league's scoring charts to #12 overall and earned first star honours on the afternoon.
Heringer was tabbed as the game's second star while Saints forward Cam Humphrey, who scored twice, received third star.
With just seven games left in regular season play the Titans now sit fifth overall with games in hand on the two teams ahead of them in the standings. The Titans currently have an 8-9 record.
The month of January was the Titans' most successful to date as they racked up four of their wins while building momentum for the final weeks of the season.
The team is next on the ice on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM when the Titans host the University of Victoria at the Langley Events Centre for the second time this season. UVIC is currently one point ahead of TWU.
