Athletes with the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack helped make the 16th annual Wendy’s Dreamlift Day a huge success. Athletes from hockey, soccer, basketball and men’s golf were a part of the event, which raised $99,742.58.
The event, which helps send Interior Children with severe disabilities and life threatening illnesses to Disneyland is the only one of its kind in Canada.
Wendy’s Restaurants in the Interior donate 100 per cent of food sales and staff wages to the cause. Many local celebrities, including the WolfPack athletes contributed time by flipping burgers, greeting patrons, manning cash registers and wiping tables. It’s the third year that TRU athletes have been a part of this event.
“We do many things in the community,” said TRU Sports Information Officer, Larry Read. “ But this is a cause that every one of our ten teams looks forward to. We were a little sad that our baseball and volleyball teams were unable to participate this year due to travel commitments.”
The WolfPack soccer, badminton and men’s golf programs are in the Canadian College Athletic Association. Volleyball and basketball play in the CIS, baseball in the Canadian College Baseball Conference while hockey participates in the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League.
