Titans pick up big home ice victory with triumph over Victoria

The Trinity Western Titans are off to a great start in 2010 with their second win in a row following a 5-4 victory over the University of Victoria on Friday night at the Langley Events Center.

Trevor Beaupre led off the scoring for the Titans early in the first. Tyler Vandergaag then doubled the lead before UVIC came back within one on a Brett Campbell effort just before the period ended.

The second period looked bleak for the Titans with UVIC taking advantage of TWU errors and pulling into the lead with three unanswered goals. The turnaround of the game happened with a goal from Josh Stephenson with 1:37 left in the second. The third period was again tight with the Titans hanging on and scoring their third unanswered goal by Trevor Edwards right at the start of the period. The Titans were successful in hanging on to the win in spite of being out shot 40 to 25 and fending off three penalties in the last six minutes of the game.

Josh Stephenson of the Titans was named the game's first star while TWU blueliner Tyler Vandergaag picked up the second star nod. Philip Barter of UVIC rounded out  the three star selections.

The Titans next challenge comes Saturday, January 23rd when they host the University of the Fraser Valley at 2:00 PM at the Langley Events Center. TWU is currently tied with UFV in points. UVIC currently stands in 3rd overall in the League with the TWU Titans just three points behind.
