Simon Fraser University will have a few new faces in its lineup when the Selkirk College Saints visit Burnaby on Saturday, January 9th after announcing a pair of player additions this week.
Joining SFU for the second half of the reason are Jake Bouma, who suited up for the BCHL's Cowichan Valley Capitals during the 2008/09 season, and Barry Moscone, who joins a handful of Grandview Steelers alumni on the team.
Bouma scored five goals and added a pair of assists in 45 games as a BCHL rookie before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in February. A cousin of current Vancouver Giants captain and Calgary Flames draft pick Lance Bouma, the 20-year old is expect to infuse further grit into the SFU line-up.
"Jake is a smart, tenacious player who will add a strong physical presence and stand up for his teammates," says SFU head coach Mark Coletta. "He adds depth to our forward group and we know he's excited to get back into competitive situations after a long injury lay-off."
Barry Moscone is the younger brother of third-year SFU centre Paul Moscone, and recently concluded a three-season career with the PIJHL's Grandview Steelers. Moscone's junior career was highlighted by a 23-goal, 47-point season in 2007/08 when the Steelers won the Cyclone Taylor Cup as B.C.'s Junior B champions.
"Barry adds size and skill up front, and we feel that he has the potential to make an excellent addition to a top line down the road," says Coletta. "It's always a challenge to come into a team midway through the season, but Barry played with a number of our guys in junior hockey and the transition should be a smooth one."
Bouma and Moscone will join previously-announced addition Bill Smith for Saturday's 2009/10 second-half opener on Saturday against Selkirk College at the Burnaby Winter Club. It will be the final meeting of the season between the teams, with SFU holding a 3-0 lead and 28-3 scoring advantage from their three October meetings.
