University of Victoria Men's Hockey coach Harry Schamhart says he’ll be looking for 60 solid minutes of hockey from his squad this weekend when they take on Thompson River University WolfPack in a crucial post-holiday series.
The Kamloops team is coming into the two-game match-up with UVic with an 8-4 record. UVIC is at 4-3-3. This will be the first meeting between these two teams.
Thompson River is currently is their inaugural B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League season and Schamhart says they’re a solid, well-coached team with four good lines. He says it will be key for his team to stay out of the penalty box, something he admits they’ve struggled with.
UVic is fourth in the standings heading into this weekend’s action.
Schamhart says the first half of the season saw his team play fast, consistent hockey. And he knows the goaltending needs to be solid on Friday and Saturday nights. UVic finished up 2009 with a tie and a win against first-place Simon Fraser. Schamhart says his team was mentally and physically ready going into those games and he’s confident he’ll see the same thing this weekend.
Game times at the Ian Stewart Complex are 10:15 Friday night and 9:30 Saturday night.
