SFU knew entering their game against the Thompson Rivers on Friday that a win would put them 14 points ahead of the second place WolfPack for the British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League's regular season title. And they came out hard, with Paul Moscone scoring the first of four goals in the opening period just five minutes into regulation.
First period goals from John Bokla, Kyle Boyko followed before Moscone scored his second off a scramble in front of WolfPack netminder Thomas Gobeil with three minutes remaining in the frame.
By the 20 second mark of the second period Moscone had capped his hat trick, netting a shorthanded goal. Markers from Chris Bond and Craig Munro quickly followed, putting SFU ahead 7-0 less than halfway into the game.
Thompson Rivers did score a pair to close out the second and another in the third.
Justin Mulholland picked up his 10th win in 11 outings, making 18 saves. Moscone was named the game's first star after his hat trick performance, and Adam Chapman contributed a pair of assists in his first game back from injury.
SFU hits the ice again on Friday when they close out the the Fall semester with a two-game weekend trip to face the University of Victoria. Catch all the action with the broadcast team of Zam Karim, Joe Perkins and Chad Klassen at sfu.ca.
