WolfPack salvage weekend split with tight-fought victory over Fraser Valley

It was a .500 weekend for the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack hockey team after the 'Pack salvaged a two-game road swing to the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley by downing the University of the Fraser Valley 6-5 on Saturday night in Abbotsford.

The victory puts the WolfPack record at 6 and 4 in the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League.

TRU led 2-0 after the first period on goals from Mick Ludwig and Dyne Parker. The WolfPack extended their lead to 4-2 after 40 minutes as Parker notched his second of the evening as well as Joel Leonard getting a goal. Leonard has five goals on the campaign. Jassi Sangha tallied twice in the final period to give the 'Pack the victory. Both his goals came with TRU enjoying a power play. Sangha now has a team high 7 goals.

TRU outshot UFV 47-34. The 'Pack were 2 for 5 with the man advantage while the UFV power play clicked three times on seven opportunities.

"A much improved effort over last night," said TRU head coach Chris Hans. "The team showed a lot of character to rebound from a sub-par outing."

Brock Fraser was in the nets for the WolfPack and got praise from Hans: "He had a strong outing. UFV is very explosive and Brock stood his ground."

It was his fourth win of the season. The WolfPack close out the pre-Christmas portion of their season with home games next weekend against Selkirk College. Saturday's game has a 8:45 pm start time at Memorial Arena.

Earlier in the week, TRU will have it's players helping out at the annual Kamloops Food Bank Breakfast for Babies event Thursday at the Coast Canadian Inn in Kamloops.
