Simon Fraser rolls to 11-1 record with road win over Fraser Valley

Simon Fraser University improved their BCIHL-leading record to 11 wins and just a single loss with a 5-2 road defeat of the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades in Abbotsford on Sunday evening.

Jackson Friesen opened the scoring for SFU on the game's first shift, taking a pass from team captain Andrew Graham and going upstairs to beat Cascades netminder Michael Chan. Sam Kobe struck for SFU's second goal at the 13:23 mark of the first period, taking advantage of a mishandled puck behind the UFV net and converting on a wrap-around. Jordan Lorenzetto answered back for Fraser Valley late in the period, deflecting a shot from the slot past SFU starter Justin Mulholland.

Simon Fraser went back ahead by a pair midway through the second period when a Chris Bond point shot found its way through traffic and rolled just inches over the goal line. Third periods goals from Friesen and BCIHL scoring leader Jaime Laprise put the game away, though Darren Olson did tally on a late third period power-play.

Mulholland picked up his ninth win in 10 starts, stopping 37 shots. Chan took the loss despite a 40-save effort.

SFU now holds a commanding 12-point lead in the BCIHL standings over second place Thompson Rivers University, though the WolfPack do hold four games in hand. Simon Fraser's next game is slated for Friday when they host TRU at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre.
