Trio of four-point efforts lead SFU to shutout win over Trinity Western

First place Simon Fraser University came out on top against the Trinity Western University Titans on Friday, November 6th at the Langley Events Center, winning by a score of 8-0.

The Titans came out strong in the first period out shooting the visitors by a margin of 13-6, but the opening 20 minutes ended scoreless. The game continued to be exciting with a strong showing by both teams and SFU netting two in the second period with the shot tally ending at 29-28 in favour of Simon Fraser.

An SFU power play goal early in the third was the first in a string of quick strikes along with a netminding change and penalty trouble for the Titans. The first two periods of the game showed that Trinity Western can compete with first place SFU, but the competing ended too early.

Sergei Dobrianski, Jaime Laprise and Steve Rickards each picked up four points in the victory, while netminder Justin Mulholland recorded the second shutout of the BCIHL season. Mulholland and Nick Mangan had shared time in an 11-0 blanking of Selkirk College on October 3rd.

Laprise, Rickards and Dobrianski each scored twice for SFU. Patrik Martin and Ben Towner added singles.

The TWU Titans now stand in sixth place with two games in hand over the leaders. The team returns to the ice on Sunday morning in Abbotsford when the Titans take on University of the Fraser Valley for the first time this season.

Heading into Sunday's game the University of the Fraser Valley has 8 points and compared to Trinity Western's six.
