Trinity Western tops Selkirk in first game in new Langley Events Centre

Trinity Western University Titans began their BCIHL home schedule with a resounding 7-1 victory over the Selkirk Saints on Friday in the team's first home game at the brand new Langley Events Centre.

After two road wins over the Saints the previous weekend, the Titans dominated play and out shot the Saints 54 to 21.

Being able to host games in the new Langley Event Center, no doubt the classiest facility in the league, brings additional excitement and status to Trinity Western hockey and the 700 fans in attendance showed their appreciation for the win and the venue.

One nine-year-old fan exclaimed, “This was cooler than going to Canuck games because I could sit where I wanted—right behind the goalie—and I could see and hear all the action.”

The dean of the Human Kinetics Department, Blair Whitmarsh, and the Langley Township mayor, Rick Green, dropped the puck at the ceremonial faceoff and welcomed the fans.

TWU has 10 new players this season and with the addition of forwards Peter Masterton, Josh Stephenson, Trevor Edwards, Andrew Haringer, Tyler Bates, and Trevor Beaupre have much more depth in scoring than in the recent past.

The goalie tandem of Evan Menzies and John-Paul Chapman played well and except for a fluke that popped over Menzies head held the opposition scoreless. Look for the Titans to be competitive and hard working in the BCIHL this year.
