The University of the Fraser Valley hockey team will get double turkey this Thanksgiving. According to the head coach of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack, they gave UFV turkey two days early.
Chris Hans made the comment after his club blew a 2-0 lead and were beaten for the first time this BC Intercollegiate Hockey League season--7-2 by UFV.
"We allowed three power play goals, battled the bouncing puck and took undisciplined penalties all night," said Hans, whose club fell to 3-1 in the regular season. UFV is 2 and 0.
TRU took 29 minutes in penalty time in comparison to UFV.
The WolfPack opened the scoring 1:40 into the hockey game when Casey Patterson (Chase, BC) scored his second goal in as many games. That was followed on a goal by Ty Stothart (Kamloops, BC). That was his first of the season.
UFV tied it at 2 by the end of the first period. It was a period where the WolfPack outshot UFV 9-8. The team from the Fraser Valley added two more goals in the second and three in the third to salt away the victory. UFV out shot the WolfPack 27-21. Blake Tancock (Chilliwack, BC) took the loss.
"They played well," stated Hans as he assessed his opposition on this night. "We took too many easy shifts and looked for the easy plays. We got away from the fundamentals. It was a good wake up call."
ICING: The WolfPack lost their leading scorer in this game. Forward Kevin Sparling (Fort St. John, BC) suffred a concussion and is out week to week. The WolfPack play Trinity Western in Langley on Oct 23 rd and SFU for the first time on Oct 24 th in their next games. They don't play at home until Saturday Nov 14 th when they entertain Trinity Western.
