SFU to face the BCHL's Burnaby Express in September exhibition tilt

Simon Fraser University's preparations for the 2009/10 season will include an exhibition match-up against the BCHL's Burnaby Express, the team announced Thursday.

The game will be played at Burnaby Lake Arena on Friday, September 4th,  giving SFU a challenging opponent while tuning up for the start of their BC Intercollegiate Hockey League regular season schedule.

"For our organization, we're very excited to link up with the SFU program and to see it continue to develop and grow," Express general manager Darcy Rota says. "It's going to be at a point in out preseason where we'll be down to some tough decisions, so it's going to be a key game for a number of players."

The Express won the RBC Royal Bank Cup as Canada's Junior A Champions in 2006. Their alumni include Phoenix Coyotes rookie Kyle Turris, Boston Bruins star Milan Lucic and Colorado Avalanche forward David Jones.

"It may be an exhibition game, but there's going to be a lot on the line for our players and theirs," SFU Director of Hockey Operations Jeff Dubois says. "Both teams will be closing in on some final roster decisions, so it isn't going to be your typical exhibition game."
