Close, but not close enough.
That was the story for the Selkirk College Saints on their first three-game Lower Mainland road trip of the season. Needing a win to jump-start the team's campaign for a spot in the BCIHL CHampionship tournament, Selkirk sandwiched a 4-1 defeat at Trinity Western between 7-4 defeats against Simon Fraser and the University of the Fraser Valley.
The trio of losses came despite the return of winger Craig Materi, a 19-point scorer from their inaugural season. Materi made an immediate impact upon his return, scoring once and assisting three times over the weekend.
Once again, the Saints were led offensively on the trip by blueliner and captain Mike Boisvert, whose two goals and four assists on the trip propelled him into fourth place amongst BC Intercollegiate Hockey League scorers.
The Saints enter the holiday break still seeking their first victory of the season. They'll have the chance to make it happen on home ice come January when they open the second half of their season with a two-game home set against Simon Fraser.
